| 407174 | 2005-11-26 03:22:00 | You can tell the diff . 80 wire has a blue connector which goes to the mobo connection . 40 wire doesn't have a blue connector . Both have stripes on one side, this goes to pin one on the mobo . |

| 407176 | 2005-11-26 03:56:00 | 40-wire shouldn't make a difference, I was more interested in whether your hard drive was on the same channel as the optical drive. Did you have a look at the BIOS settings for that drive? |

[edit] id just like to add that for the longest time i can remember, my 20x12x48x CD burner has been limited to burning at 16x and my 16x dvd drive (which i only recently got a month ago) refused to burn at anythign higher than 4x on 8x media |
