| 408270 | 2005-11-28 01:44:00 | Hi, I think I have a nasty bit of adware hidden somewhere. I am protected by Zone alarm and Grisoft anti-virus. I also run SpyBot, Spy sweeper, AdWare, and pest patrol but none of these find anything amiss. Frequently regardless of application(s) running I get a very MS looking ad (grey with black warnings in MS's name) that my registry or some other file is corrupted and that I should go to site www............. (about 10 different ones) which is always a commercial site for a free test which of course throws up anywhere from 300 to 700 corrupt files. These sites dont clean anything just try to get you to buy their s/ware. I have lived with these """corrupt files""" for about 5 months now without any problems. Can anyone throw any light on my problem and how to fix it please, my patience is finally running out, ( I know Linux is one solution but that is for some time in the future when I have no other pressing jobs to do, I wish). TIA. Phil |

Yeah, spot on for the services fix, it was running. I've stopped that now so time will tell. Trouble is this problem occured weather I was on line or not online. If the problem still occurs over the next week or so I will try drcspy's fix. Will let you know my results. Thanks to all. |

| 408275 | 2005-11-28 09:31:00 | Messenger service in XP as it says under description, isnt related to Windows messenger. So, if something stops working, turn that back on and get this (www.grc.com) Info here (www.grc.com) |

| 408276 | 2005-11-30 05:19:00 | The corrupt files are probably hiding in your RAM. Two measures to take: 1.Go and get CCleaner from www.ccleaner.com. Run cleaner, ensuring that you have clicked the box saying ''temporary files''. 2.Get ''Recover Memory XP'' and do a recover memory operation several times to free up your RAM. This may help flush out the corrupt files. |
