407870 2005-11-26 04:11:00 Hello

Is there any way to "connect" a power mac g5 to an asus laptop? Would a usb data transfer cable do the trick? I can't use my USB Key because it's only 2GB- the files in uestion are around 4GB

407871 2005-11-26 05:37:00 I don't think you can use USB, but Ethernet or FireWire 400 should do the trick :)

Edit: Or just make two trips with your flash drive. Back in 2001 when I got a new computer I had to make about 20 trips with a 64MB card and my digital camera to shift my data to my new iMac, but it worked.

407872 2005-11-26 07:10:00 How can I do that when each file is "just 4gb in total?" there are about 3 4gb Full quality DV quicktime movies I want to move that were exported from imovie maverickoc (7240)
407873 2005-11-26 07:14:00 Or get wireless USB 2 adapters, if apples use USB 2 wireless, and copy them wirelessly. Speedy Gonzales (78)

407879 2005-11-26 09:33:00 IP over firewire is, to me, the best. Firewire 400 gives you 400Mbps and Firewire 800 gives you 800Mbps. Both Windows XP and Mac OS X.3+ support IP over firewire natively. You just have to add the connection yourself in windows and in OS X, it'll be under the area where you select 'built-in ethernet', 'airport', 'modem', etc...

Give one an IP of 192.168.x.y and give the other an IP of 192.168.x.z and you'll be set. Use whatever filesharing method you like the most.

I have not tried the above menthod, you could also try putting the mac into target mode by holding down the T key while restarting the mac with both computers connected to the firewire cable, xp might be able to see the mac as a external drive
