| 408665 | 2005-11-29 22:56:00 | Since I've been on Xtra's 2Mb/128K plan and using their freebie D-Link modem, about 1 in 5 . com websites will not load at the first attempt . I can't force re-try either - the sites are unavailable until the attempt times out . The weirdest thing is that the second attempt always works straight away! It's damn hard to figure out because a few changes happened at the same time . . . * I started using Firefox * I changed from Orcon to Xtra * I changed my adsl plan * I started using this external modem Any ideas anyone please? Thanks . |

| 408667 | 2005-11-29 23:51:00 | * I started using Firefox This will not make a difference . In my oppinion . * I changed from Orcon to Xtra This is the mort likely cause of your problem, As I have found, Xtra's nameserver look-up is slightly different than most other ISP's and if the . com domain names you are looking up, have thier nameserver settings pointing to anything other than the domineant nameserver of the server it is hosted on, than Xtra has problems . * I changed my adsl plan Will not matter . in my opinion . * I started using this external modem also will not matter . In my opinion . Some websites regardless of whether they know it or not have their nameservers settings pointing to web hosting reseller's custom nameservers or similar . which mean that the nameservers are not dominant on the server the site is on . I am sure someone will correct me if i am wrong, but as long as you stay with Xtra, you are most likely going to experience this problem . :badpc: If i am wrong, please correct me! |
