2005-11-30 08:16:00 | Am I correct in assuming that some of the subscribers to this thread do not have DVD drives and they think they should get cd's and the bulk of us can go to hell. Bet they're all snotty nosed school kids too.

2005-11-30 08:20:00 | well it is a magazine based on technology, if your computer system doesn't have a dvddrive of some sought, the contents of the magazine is probably too up to date as well for those people. | plod (107) | |
2005-11-30 08:23:00 | I bought the case my computer is in two years ago. The only original parts on it are the floppy drive and the DVD drive. I knew I would want the dvd player one day. Today was the first time I have had a dvd disk to put in it. My first thought was "here comes trouble". But I put the disk in and it worked. I don't have an instalation disk for the drive so it must be running on XP supplied drivers. Amazing. :o :o :o

2005-11-30 08:41:00 | metla, i think youll find that most computer retailers such as nfc technology and pb technologies are selling 25 disc cakes of DVDrs for $10, plus you can pick a samsung dvd writer for $2 more than the cd writer, go figure uh, At PB there cheapest CD-RW is $39 plus gst, the cheapest DVD writer (excluding Optiwrite junk) is $89 plus gst, Over double the price. again at PB a 100 piece spindle pack of CD's is $35 plus GST, which comes to 35c per cd. A 100 piece spindle of 8x DVD discs is $49.99 plus gst, which comes in at 49.99c per disc.

So? And the 25 for $10 media should probably be avoided. |

2005-11-30 08:43:00 | We might still be stuck with diskette if someone hadn't start to distribute software via CD-ROM . :eek: James is 100% correct, what happened to our adventurous spirit that sees us embrace new technology as fast as developers can release it? Where are all the early adopters? have they been swamped by new-generation Luddites? Let's face it, DVD writers are hardly bleeding edge technology, in fact they are only marking time until the next generation of high-density DVD technology arrives . I regard it as a step forwards, and an incentive for me to buy a DVD writer . I find that CD Roms simply don't have enough capacity any more . I was already looking at Pricespy this week and noting how cheap they are . Go for it PCW . Cheers Billy 8-{)

2005-11-30 08:44:00 | For me persoanly it makes no difference, for one I have a bunch of DVD writers,and secondly no cover disc ever gets near one of my comps. I can't see any reason it destributing a free disc that is unusable to a large chunk of people.

2005-11-30 08:47:00 | Yes Tux I can buy DVD writer for $2 more, but I already have a CD player/writer so $X+100%+$2=>????? It's alright if you have plenty. but some don't. | Arnie (6624) | |
2005-11-30 08:48:00 | The only reason I have a dvd in my puter is cos the insurance company paid for it when my cd rom died. I couldn't of afforded to install one, and had no need for one. I know most people on my wage bracket, do NOT have a dvd installed on their puters. It is ok to say that people shouldn't be reading the mag if they can't keep up with the technology, but hey, not everyone is a millionaire. | supergran (108) | |
