408796 2005-11-30 07:11:00 Just out of curiosity apart from burning cd's on the fly...what benefit does having a second DVD drive on your computer have?

Umm none really - I have a DVD writer and a DVD-ROM - burning on the fly is the main reason... The DVD-ROM also has a better data transfer rate "apparently" :)

408799 2005-11-30 07:42:00 I only have a cdrw so I can't view the dvd and this month the price went up.So it now costs more for less.
Maybe an artical on selecting and installing a dvd.

Hi Homer
Am certain that the very good folks at PCWorld will give you a replacement DVD.
I and quite a few others have encountered this from time to time and it has always had a happy ending. Peace be with you !

408802 2005-11-30 07:58:00 Looks like another 'seemed like a good idea at the time' idea, hatched around the boardroom table by those with all the techno-goodies, turns to custard.

Having a DVD is fine with me, but I do think that having the 'essentials' on a CD with the DVD carrying these esentials plus exta goodies would be the way to go.

408803 2005-11-30 08:03:00 yea jester has a good idea! that way more people will buy it and people with out a DVD-rom drive will still get something. homer (363)
408804 2005-11-30 08:03:00 metla, i think youll find that most computer retailers such as nfc technology and pb technologies are selling 25 disc cakes of DVDrs for $10, plus you can pick a samsung dvd writer for $2 more than the cd writer, go figure Tux (606)
408805 2005-11-30 08:04:00 We might still be stuck with diskette if someone hadn't start to distribute softwares via CD-ROM .

Cheers :)
