| 408906 | 2006-02-27 04:38:00 | So, I take it you have trashed your perfectly fine television in order to purchase a HD Widescreen to accomidate the transmissions on Sky Digital? After all, its the new thing, other people have done it, Never mind that like CD's 99.9 pecent of TV transmission is in the old format which just happens to be suported by every single TV in NZ..... And you are still using your 386SX25 Metla? Yeah Right! Different arguments, but parallel technologies, you are smarter than that Metla, it is a piss-weak argument. If you don't want to upgrade to digital TV or Sky you don't have to, you just forgo the "benefits" of that technology. You don't winge that you should get the Sky programming and its digital enhancements on your perfectly fine old technology television, you live without it, or spend big$$$$ to be an early adopter. If you want the benfits of DVD ROM, you buy the technology for $30-$40 and enjoy. It's a cheap thrill, and nobody else has to subsidise your pleasure. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

| 408907 | 2006-02-27 04:51:00 | Billy You talk about the benefits of a DVD Rom drive. Up until now I have seen no benefits to me personally. I have had one for six years and certainly don't class it as a 'must have'. If I want to watch a movie I will do so on my DVD harddrive connected to my television - there I can put my feet up and relax with a glass of wine! When I want to preserve my data in case of computer failure I will copy it to the external harddrive and memory sticks. I don't think people should feel they have to go out and install a DVD Rom drive just to keep up with the Jones'. Oxie (Lyn) |

Yeah, I pretty much posted for the sake of it. :D Im not really concerned how they package it, though the very first comp I shoved the DVD disc into only had a CD drive so the disc went in the bin, Purely so I wouldn't make the same mistake again. |

I am simply saying that the technology has moved on, and if you wish to take advantage of the PCW DVD then it is your choice to upgrade (for a minimal cost) or decide to pass. What I don't agree with is expecting PCW to ensure backwards compatibility at IDG's expense just to support your decision to stick with CDs. It is a freedom of choice issue on both sides of the argument. Of course just to confuse matters, this month it is a CD again! Cheers Billy 8-{) |
