408876 2005-12-01 11:46:00 Just lucky it wasn't a spelling filter, i would be down to 3......

Or a counting filter, it would be down to 2 ....

Time for a new poll: How many now have bought the mag because this thread has raised interest in what's on the DVD?

Ever been to Wanganui? We were there earlier this year and were really surprised. Idiot mayor, yes, a dump it is NOT.

Why not plan your next holiday to Wanganui, Plod, so you can enjoy the top class environment...and... I am sure, really sure, that Metla would give you a special place in his big screen entertainment room! :D

408879 2005-12-01 21:24:00 We will be doing DVDs with 3 issues as a trial. Chances are we'd continue with it it, as almost all the Oz mags have now switched to cover DVDs too and DVD drive penetration is such that it make sense. I know some folks will still be on CD but the bulk of users (according to reader surveys) have now moved to DVD drives.

"some folks " ...yeah right

Just bought this seeing it had Open Office on it...
now I cant use it
bummer

408881 2005-12-02 02:19:00 Here's another idea for PCW - strike a deal with a nationwide supplier for a discount off DVD drives for readers of PCW, to encouage the upgrade - run it for the next three issues, see what happens... Lizard (2409)
408882 2005-12-05 02:19:00 Firstly, I prefer DVD format becuse I get more software when I buy the Magazine. PC World gets to add more content and has more flexability with that content. CD only readers can easily DL any smaller applications from: pcworld.co.nz

Secondly, congrats to PC World for taking the leap to DVD. I would like to point out, however, you guys need to take more care with the content. Knoppix Live does not burn to CD. I have tried twice using Nero to burn the image to disk. Both attempts have the same result: I boot from the disk, I hit enter to boot to Knoppix, I see the splash screen, ..........., then Tux in the top LH corner of the screen. My PC then totally locks up and has to be reset. My neighbour has had similar problems.

Thirdly, a member pointed out in an earlier post that the hyperlinks are not working. I doesn't bother me as I drill down into the folders on the disk to get what I want. This is an issue to be looked at for novice users/readers.

Lastly, I am dissappointed to discover the FEAR demo has malware included. Once again you guys need to take more care with the content. I installed the demo and now have to figure out how to get rid of it. PCW has a responsibility to it's readers/customers to provide a safe computing environment and avoid litigation.

408883 2005-12-05 02:27:00 I have been to Wanganui and it is true. What a dump, nice main shopping centre, but dont think the houses have seen any paint in over 20 yrs. LOL

Anyway, CD onwers, upgrade your life, get a DVD drive, you will love that you dont have to load 6 disks when installing Call of Duty 2!...haha

Well I did tell everyone here ages ago.
Boot off a DOS disk and delete all the entries it installed...

And PCworld probably doesn't - its just a bundled disk - trust nothing and no-one and you're fine. :D
