409441 2005-12-02 09:16:00 Hi, guys. Anyone know the best firewall at the moment? It should be very competent in the virus monitoring and blocking hacking attempts and offer the ultimate protection through both internet and email. Thanks :nerd: Albert (482)
409442 2005-12-02 09:54:00 Firewalls don't perform anti-virus functions.

Possibly what you're looking for is a collaboration between Zonealarm and AVG - their pro package is very reasonably priced and includes most of the security functions you need.

Some do, Nortons & AVG to mention 2, have combined Firewall/AV products

409444 2005-12-02 10:38:00 Some do, Nortons & AVG to mention 2, have combined Firewall/AV productsAVG (free version) has no firewall functionality. I kinda doubt the pro version has any either.

Also, Norton has quite a few packages, some of which include their excellent firewall. But I doubt many people in the know would recommend their anti-virus programme.

409445 2005-12-02 10:42:00 Norton has goos working products, but they take up too many resources. Albert, do a search of the forum with your topics title, and u will find numerous threads answering your question! :) zahmad (8963)

Yeah, I know AVG free doesn't
He never specified free or paid, although I suspect he was after a free one.
But they certainly have one if you got the cash

I wouldn't recommend any Nortons AV or Firewall products but they do have 'em
Having said that, repairing Nortons crippled systems have made me a decent living over the last 15yrs so all power to them I say!

409447 2005-12-02 12:35:00 <Albert : blocking hacking attempts and offer ultimate protection>

Mine is : no firewall -(I know its a cheap shot but it gets me in on the subject!) As for 'ultimate protection' I'm tring to achieve this through a virtual zone. (For a blog) On a test machine with firewall at first with Bufferzone, then Sandboxie and the like as a layered approach - windows firewall and zonealarm - Now with just the virtual, although I like the firewall/virtual combination. At work I've looked at greenboarders offer of this approach. Anyone try this sandbox idea?

Why do you need to update a firewall?
Virus checkers, spyware scanners have definition updates - explain what the firewall has that needs updating.
