409249 2005-12-02 09:40:00 Just reading this cos I was curious, and when I bought my compaq puter, does that mean that compaq have the admin password for my puter? No, I don't want to change the one on this machine, just curious how someone like me would get on if asked for admin password, cos I am sure I have never put one on this puter. TIA supergran (108)

Nothing to do with compaq it's a windows thing
Even though an Admin pass has never been used sometimes windows trips over itself, especially when problems develop and asks for a password if you try to carry out heavy duty repairs. It's basically called a ballsup.
Also some OEM versions pre-installed by the manufacturer come with a default Administrator password, usually 'admin', 'administrator' or 'password'

409252 2005-12-04 22:44:00 what are you trying to achieve...........you say that you are pressing R on 'installing windows' ..........no you are not...........by your description when it is asking for the admin password you are in the 'recovery console' this is NOT where you go to install windows..............

i repeat ......what are you trying to do ? are you trying to run a 'repair install' or what ?
