| 409610 | 2005-12-21 12:05:00 | Just a record for anyone else thinking of getting world exchange/xnet. I just got connected on the adsl today and the dns server shat out once so i had to switch to one of their other ones. But when it is going it seems to be full speed, ping seems prety average. Easy to deal with company (none of that "press 1 to do this press 2...") Apart from the dns server going down i;ve been happy. :D | elmo (8988) | ||
| 409611 | 2005-12-22 06:28:00 | cool looks like i will get world exchanges $43 for 5MB at 1mb/s plan and see how it goes lol that's F ing terrable. I guess it boils down to how much cap you are going to use. I STRONGLY suggest have a good think about it as its a pain to change ISP. If you plan to P2P with torrents or DC++ etc, that 5 gig will be completely usless. If you just plan to brows and check email with the odd bit of online gameing sure 5 gig will be ok. Shame you can't move on those tolls. |

| 409612 | 2005-12-22 06:46:00 | I am getting broadband, i have international calls with telecom and national calls with telstra and with this set-up i am getting the best value for my calls. A lot of ISPs seem to be w*nkers about this (add $10 if you dont have their tolls). I found one company www.wxc.co.nz (http://www.wxc.co.nz/) that has good plans but is the quality of service crap? A friend of mine got slingshot and said it was appaling - worse than dial-up. Anyone keen to share their experiences with their ISPs? Probably looking for 3Gb+ cap and 1MBit. Any help would be appreciated. I have used Telecom and Xtra for yonks in the past on dial up. Now I use Orcon as my ISP and Telstra Clear for Tolls. Telecom gets 40 odd $ per month. My ISP gets $49.95 per month 256/128 uncapped Broadband and Telstra gives me 300 minutes for toll calls for $20. I have tried World Exchange in the past briefly for tolls and never used the ISP. You have to think about whether you are paying the bills and what sort of service you need or want. Over the last couple of days I have downloaded Linux Fedora Core 4. That is 4 CDs plus an 85 Meg rescue CD. I still have uncapped broadband for $49.95 per month. |

Be aware that they are blocking certain web sites such as www.torrentspy.com (http://www.torrentspy.com) They say they have a routing problem and they cant get to japan sites and some eu sites but this has been going on for more than 2 weeks now and if you use a free proxy server you can get to these sites fine. They are obviously blocking them on their proxy server. They would not even reply until I wrote a threatening e-mail. Now I will be moving to IHug just as soon as I can afford the transfer fee and transfer my phone account back to Telecom as Telstra said they would not keep my line rental if I moved my tolls and ISP. |

How it going Big John? I've just managed to connect to TorrentSpy no probs, or does the trouble start once you fire up your bittorrent client? |

My thing with Orcon is uncapped so I can download what I want to. Ummmmmm. 5 Megabytes at 1 Megabyte per second will give you 5 seconds I guess or is that megabits?. 5 MB will give you a few Emails with file attachments. In my Emails today I received four with around 2 Megabyte attachments. In your plan you can maybe get three of these. |

| 409618 | 2005-12-22 20:12:00 | I'm currently with Ihug - 10GB offpeak, 10GB peak data, 2mbit speed, $49.95/month with tolls. Service has been good, speed has been good, and the conneciton has been reliable. I've been able to download from fast servers at fairly close to 2mbit/s - around 1.8mbit/s on average. For me, I don't particulary mind having tolls through them because we barely make national or international phone calls. Though, the one call we did make, it was at a very good price - compared with the prices we used to pay with Telecom. I would suggest you check out these internet+tolls providers, and see if you can get better value for money for toll calls through them - you never know. in regards about the ihug toll call, how does that work??? like is it i am totally take off my account from telecom and to ihug??? and also, ihug is about having on on peak + off peak package, i am using around 1.5GB per month and mostly used at night until midnight... which package really should be fit on me??? jacky |
