1394182 2015-02-11 23:52:00 Hi all.

I have a little Acer netbook running on Mint 13 and has been really good.

However and a really big one, we had a couple of our grandbabies over, last weekend wanting to play games.

I thought be safer if they used the netbook, incase they stuffed things up, which they did.

It is now so very, very slow and mouse does strange things, like stopping or moving by itself.

I know it's my fault for not watching them, but with my ill health and all....

I really don't want to have to reload it, so is there some other way to clear out whatever they done?

I have Ubuntu Tweak which I've cleaned things out like the Cache etc.

So is there any ways to, go back it time, we we does on Windows? (System restore).

Also any way to stop them going to sites, which are not safe?

Caught our 8 year old on a nasty fighting site.

Thanks,

Ian.

1394183 2015-02-12 03:15:00 To be honest you should look in to OpenDNS. It's free to sign up but if you get that machine to use OpenDNS, it can block certain types of websites, so you could block violence, pornography, gambling etc :) Chilling_Silence (9)

I'll look into that, so next question, restoring my Linux as I really don't want to have to reload it.

1394185 2015-02-12 09:26:00 Have a read of the following -- 1st 3 results: Hope you like typing commands :) www.google.co.nz

There is no system restore like windows. Did find a few articles that list programs that can be installed that work like system restore in windows BUT you need a clean system first -- hindsight is wonderful after the fact. Do a google search for "System restore linux" the first few give suggestions.

1394186 2015-02-12 10:00:00 Nope, there's no "restore" function.

What I'd suggest doing is trying to create a new User account and see if the new User account also has the same issues.

A new user account sounds good.

Done that in Windows, but not Linux.

I'll try and report back.

1394188 2015-02-14 03:34:00 Hi guys, I'm back.
Not feeling to good, so bare with me, very slow, today.
I reloaded Mint and 1 problem followed the reload.
Box comes up with connection problems, and did that before reload.
Got the eartanet plugged in and still happens.
So thought I reinstalled Windows 7 starter.
Loaded onto flash drive and 1 couple of pages come up, then a box says, A required cd/dvd driver is missing. If you have driver floppy disk, cd/dvd or usb flash drive inset it now.if windows installation media is in the cd/dvd drive you can safely remove it for this step.
Netbook dont have floppy drive, or cd/dvd, so can't get any further.
Tried cancel and restart, but same.
Don't feel I can do much today, but any info appreciated.
Ian

1394189 2015-02-14 03:39:00 If youre using a USB 3 port. Plug it into a USB 2 port. Thats why its asking for drivers Speedy Gonzales (78)
1394190 2015-02-14 05:19:00 Nah, Speedy.
Just a crappy old Acer Aspire One and I've loaded heaps of Linux onto it, no problem with that.

1394191 2015-02-14 05:24:00 Its not because of Linux its because of windows. If you want to reinstall it. And if youre using a USB 3 port Speedy Gonzales (78)
