1394083 2015-02-11 07:57:00 Was trying to help someone today via Teamviewer. There were over 3000 PUPs including toolbars of all kinds, which Malwarebytes picked up.
I also wanted to install Cleaner, but their PC would not download it. I suspect there is something on his PC which Is preventing it. He had Nod 32, MSSE, Norton and McAfee installed!

Question, can Teamviewer work ok in Safe Mode, while I try to install Cleaner? I removed McAfee and Norton and disabled MSSE. Never seen so much crap on a PC for a long time. He didn't seem all that concerned, except that he thought it was "going slow lately" !

Having spent most of the afternoon on it, I told him to phone me tomorrow so I can clean it out more. ( cannot go there physically, still on crutches and can't drive yet)

Cheers LL

1394084 2015-02-11 08:13:00 TV should be fine in safe mode / networking. If you want to log in. I would also run adwcleaner. Speedy Gonzales (78)

Could you transfer the Ccleaner setup file from your PC to his PC via teamviewer
and try the install ?

Hmm.... Haven't ever transferred file via TV before, but might be worth a try if I can't install Ccleaner by way of safe mode.

No just run once, took nearly four hours. Maybe run it again today, will also try to get Adwcleaner on it. I used Revo to remove Driverguide and Regcure. PC is so damn slow, Windows 7 Home Premium. Browsers are stuffed with toolbars, especially Chrome, IE not so bad, at least there doesn't appear to be any porn on it.

1394090 2015-02-11 19:09:00 Running just those two cleaners is not enough :groan:. Follow the guides malwaretips.com (http:) and run ALL the programs. Theres also another one that isn't mentioned on that site -- www.bleepingcomputer.com -- Use that As well.

Many people think running one or two will get them all -- 99% of the time it doesn't.

The fact they had multi AV's wouldn't be helping, they fight one another and can in some cases disable themselves so you have nothing. If Nod was installed was it setup fully ? Most people just throw it in ( including some techs) and don't actually set it to work better.

Those programs are only the basics, there are others as well that are far more hard hitting. I use one that would take at a guess 5+ hours if Malwarebytes took 4 hrs.

It may take hours to do the lot, sometimes it can take a day or longer, that's why I dont do clean-outs at peoples houses these days -- If they want to pay me by the hour for 8+ hours sitting there watching scans run that's fine by me but it will cost $$$$$$

Sometimes if a PC is to bad its actually quicker and a better outcome to save all the data , wipe the drive and start again.

1394091 2015-02-11 19:56:00 6213As Wainui said. Not one AV scanner will be able to detect and clean.
They all have differences in their definitions which is why you should
have multiple scanners. Here is what I have in my armoury:

1394092 2015-02-11 20:00:00 With that many PUP's there must be a lot of stuff you can remove in un-install programs(use Revo Uninstaller for this) then hit with the usual clean up software

Better to do a clean install as the Registry could be damaged
