| 1393932 | 2015-02-10 00:56:00 | Have a HP laptop that was new with Windows 8 home and I have installed Windows 8.1 Enterprise on. Has worked well for a few months but now can get login screen no problem but once logged in get black screen with cursor. I setup 5 laptops like this and this is the only one giving an issue (at this stage anyway). I know this is a known issue and Google is full of advice - none of which has helped. I get the same result when logged in Safe Mode. I have uninstalled the graphics and monitor drivers. Done a sfc /scannow, delete the windows activation registry settings. It failed doing a refresh so about to format and start again but thought I'd ask here if anyone got any other idea? Cheers |

| 1393933 | 2015-02-10 07:20:00 | Most (99%) of the time this problem has been with HP Laptops. The problem is some of the HP W8 drivers are compatible with W8.1 A couple of times doing the following ( fix I found) has worked: 1. Reboot into safe mode with command prompt 2. Delete fntcache.dat from c:\windows\system32 3. Reboot back to windows 8.1. The fntcache.dat file is auto-recreated. Failing that I dont piss about these days, save any data, and wipe the drives, install 8.1 fresh. |

| 1393934 | 2015-02-10 07:53:00 | Thanks. I have already tried deleting the fntcache.dat file with no luck. Figured it would be a drive wipe but thought I'd ask. Just about to post a question about Vista and wireless you may be able to help with. Cheers |
