1382139 2014-08-19 23:07:00 Hi there, quick question. Is it legal to upload a video (review) about a company for their product or services without their permission in New Zealand. Thanks. Nas (17288)
1382140 2014-08-19 23:31:00 Try it and see!
When the summons arrives you will get the first indication that all is not well.

Seriously though, it's a very open-ended question.
A positive or negative review?
Uploaded presumably to a publicly accessable site?

I don't think it's illegal but if you upset them they may spit the dummy.

A quick enquiry at Citizens Advice Bureau would be my first move.

1382142 2014-08-19 23:50:00 thanks KarameaDave. negative review so that people are aware of it and I can share with family and friend. yes, on a publicly accessible site. I have already dropped them a line(Cab), let see what they say. Nas (17288)
1382143 2014-08-19 23:55:00 I don't know the law regarding this but I'd think it might depend on what you say and how you say it. If you make it clear it's your personal opinion only it should be ok but if you make any statements as factual you'd need to be able to back it up if the company took exception to it.

For example saying "I think it's complete junk and my test model lasted less than 5 minutes" is probably ok as it expresses an opinion and a personal experience but saying "this product is total crap and will die the fist time you use it" is a statement and conjecture so you could possibly have some issues with the company.

Most likely if you piss someone off they would start but demanding you take it down and threatening legal action - as long as you comply that should be the end of it.
Depends on the company and what you say of course.

1382144 2014-08-20 00:08:00 Thxs Dugimodo..correct me if you think I am wrong. Once I have bought a product, I own it and I can say whatever I want about it or cant? Presume the same goes for the service as well?

What I wanted to review and upload was about a house. we got a house built, paid premium price and 5 months later, cracks in the wall, water leakage, drive away cracking up and other issues and the company that had built it had just washed their hands off it and not responding. I have all these on vid with dates, etc...my lawyer is looking into it. but once I started doing my research into the company online (which I should have done prior to choosing them) and I found out that others have had similar issues with this company. they are quite a known company and I wanted to share my side of the story so that others are aware of it and if possible don't end up in our situation. once I have uploaded the video, I plan to send the link to that company as well so that they can explain as well if they choose...fair playing ground...

1382145 2014-08-20 00:39:00 If you are making factual statements, you should be OK. If you make false or arguable accusations, you may be open to a defamation case, depending on the entities involved and the specific details. inphinity (7274)
1382146 2014-08-20 00:58:00 You could always contact TV3 Campbell live, they have run exposés on shabby building work, this I believe is the most recent:

Its unlikely , unless its a large company with lots of money.
