| 1381971 | 2014-08-17 21:38:00 | Correct me if wrong but the duty free allowance (at the airport) is NZ$700 per person. What happens when the goods add up over $700 (say $750) - is GST (and duty if appropriate) collected on the $50 or on the whole $750? Do they generally give any leeway if the goods total $50 to $100 over the allowance? Thanks |

| 1381973 | 2014-08-18 08:08:00 | I rang customs regarding the duty free allowance for residents returning to NZ. According to the person I spoke to, GST and duty will only be collected if the GST/duty fees exceed $60. So for a laptop (laptops doesn't attract any duty), there will be no GST payable as long as what you paid for the laptop is less than $1100 (15% of $400 = $60). | tims (10184) | ||
