1381709 2014-08-15 01:07:00 PM OK's Hacking...so long as the site isn't protected!!!

"Mr Slater and a National Party Headquarters staffer were able to gain access to Labour's records because of a security flaw on the party's website.

Mr Key suggested that even if Mr Ede had accessed the records, "of course it would be fine to go and do that" because they were unprotected."

1381710 2014-08-15 01:27:00 So why is mr key allowing the recording studios to sue people that download music from unsecured sites? plod (107)
1381711 2014-08-15 02:02:00 Oh good, let's all hack into nats sites see if he's OK with that!
What a sad example of amoral self interest.
The man is no better than a criminal.

1381713 2014-08-15 02:23:00 Mr Key suggested that even if Mr Ede had accessed the records, "of course it would be fine to go and do that" because they were unprotected.

Asked if he stood by Mr Ede, Mr Key responded: "Yeah absolutely."
But like Mr Key he said: "I don't think it was a big deal either way.

"I wouldn't necessarily have done it but I'm not going to judge."Sounds a lot like its an approval. All hes said is he wouldn't do it himself.

Either way, the Book is named appropriately: Dirty Politics

1381714 2014-08-15 05:03:00 Oh I see . :illogical

I guess by way of deduction that makes it OK to steal other peoples Mail as long as their Letter Box isn’t locked .

And I guess it therefore follows that it’s OK to take somebody else’s car if it isn’t locked .

I could go on but I’m sure you’ve go the picture .

What a Dork and he runs the country .

1381717 2014-08-15 05:23:00 NB: This law apparently is not applicable to the PM or his employees...so long as the site is not protected.

In 2003 the New Zealand Parliament passed amendments to the Crimes Act adding in specific offenses to cover crimes involving computers.

Section 249 Accessing computer system for dishonest purpose
(1) Every one is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 7 years who, directly or indirectly, accesses any computer system and thereby, dishonestly or by deception, and without claim of right, -
(a) obtains any property, privilege, service, pecuniary advantage, benefit, or valuable consideration; or
(b) causes loss to any other person
(2) Every one is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years who, directly or indirectly, accesses any computer system with intent, dishonestly or by deception, and without claim of right, -
(a) to obtain any property, privilege, service, pecuniary advantage, benefit, or valuable consideration; or
(b) to cause loss to any other person

Section 252 Accessing computer system without authorisation
(1) Every one is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years who intentionally accesses, directly or indirectly, any computer system without authorisation, knowing that he or she is not authorised to access that computer system.
(2) To avoid doubt, subsection(1) does not apply if a person who is authorised to access a computer system accesses that computer system for a purpose other than the one for which that person was given access.

But remember the site must NOT be protected...otherwise laws may apply!!!

1381718 2014-08-15 05:23:00 I think JK is on the back foot at the moment, and is suffering from a dose of uncoordinated/uncontrolled lip movement :)

Edit: got a copy of the book today, and have started having a read................
