1381642 2014-08-13 22:31:00 Whoopee! Appropriately enough in Election Year, the Martin Jet pack (www.nzherald.co.nz) has soared to new heights of hyperbole.
Are they aware that quantum refers to the smallest achievable unit?
Why don't they advertise the noise? Nobody could describe the noise as "small", whether that noise comes from the occasional low, slow hops that comprise the nano-leaps, or the raucous cries of the supporters.
A historic performance? Much Ado About Nothing perhaps?
It appears to have a speed and range quite similar to a parachute, although it does self-launch. However, I doubt it is intended to fold up quite so well. The claims of it's performance have steadily reduced over the years, but have always carried announcements that it is advancing rapidly. Perhaps it is handicapped by being saddled with monstrous costs? The odds of finding residents anywhere that would welcome the sound of the thing near their place seem quite small, even with Koha slung about. Imagine the joys of being able to experience the joys of one of these kicking sand in your face at your favourite beach. Still, the concept is appealing, the promotion is emotional and superficially attractive, the achievement is the undersized performer.
Never mind, the shares should sell as well as a wide range of previous aviation "innovations" such as the Moller Skycar that offer the sky as a playground.
All it is aimed to do is sell shares in air-mindedness. ;)

But in hover mode, it'd be good for uncovering the toheroa. That's get you some brownie points Whenu :D

1381646 2014-08-14 09:24:00 This of course is the Jet Pack that does not actually have a jet Ofthesea (14129)
1381647 2014-08-14 12:21:00 Id like to see it actually carrying something heavy on it - like a human maybe? :( Zippity (58)
1381648 2014-08-14 12:51:00 Oh, it has carried people. Not far, not fast, not often. :-( R2x1 (4628)

yes but after all these years they should have more to show for their efforts.
As for their share offer - I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

1381650 2014-08-14 23:19:00 They are looking likely to be overtaken much cheaper, easily available & working tech.
Its Nothing a pilotless drone cant do now , even home hobbists have built one-off man carrying multicopters .
Carrying a person on such a thing is unlikey to be much use to the military , a very easy target, dangerous to operate & no worthwhile use.

Not that many private users would be keen on such an expensive, potentially dangerous thing either .
Just like the real jet pack, the water/aqua cars and all those other tech novelties.
