1394239 2015-02-18 20:13:00 Tony when that happens, push the Windows Key + R, then your cmd and hit enter, then on the new window toe "ipconfig" without the speech marks. When you get back online, send us a screenshot of the output in that window, you'll likely need to full screen it.

OK, will do. A couple of interesting things - the thing is OK atm, but I did an ipconfig just to have a look and it gave an IP address for the network card of 192.168.1.2 which AFAIK is also the IP address of my Windows phone when it is connected. If I can work out how to do it I''l try and change the IP address of the phone and see if that makes a difference.

I also am multi-booting with Vista and the Win10 preview and admittedly after only a short test the problem doesn't seem to occur there.

1394240 2015-02-18 21:09:00 You shouldn't have to give the phone another IP address. What "should" happen is if the phone is connected to the wireless and its got the IP of 192.168.1.2 then the router should give anything else connecting a different IP 192.168.1.??? automatically. If the phone is not connected and the computer is, then the phone will be given a different IP.

This is assuming the devices are set to obtain automatically. If anything you may want to give the computer a static IP, depending on the routers, some are limited to how high they will go, but if you wanted to give the Computer a static try something in the higher range, 100 + for example.Eg; 192.168.1.100 basically you can go up to 254 unless the router is limited to lower.

1394242 2015-02-19 04:44:00 Sounds like the routers DHCP daemon is crashing, which is causing the loss of internet connectivity coz it's not clever enough to keep a state of IPs it's given out previously :P Chilling_Silence (9)

I just came back to the PC and it was all stopped. It took maybe 6 disable/enables to get it to stay up for more than a few secs. I haven't done the ipconfig thing because when it is down I need it up and I can't spend the (short) time getting it. It seems like once it is up it is OK as long as there is activity, but it "goes to sleep" (or something) after a period of inactivity. I found a timeout parameter on the router and changed that from 5 minutes to 15 on the basis that Outlook does a send/receive every 10 mins, which ought to keep it alive. I also disabled "let the PC power down the adapter to save power". Neither of these have made any difference.

1394244 2015-02-19 19:33:00 Sorry Tony. Neil McC (178)
1394245 2015-02-19 20:34:00 Totally stopped on me this morning. I spoke to Actrix and they made me do ipconfig /flushdns. After a reboot everything sprang into life. The question is whether it will keep going.

I proved to my satisfaction that it is not my network adapter, as I plugged the router directly into my laptop and got exactly the same thing happening. I'll report back as to whether things stay working.

1394246 2015-02-19 20:44:00 This is for Tony -- looking back over this thread, post #14 ( and now your last comment above re the laptop as well) it's possible its the modem/router that's the problem, not the PC's, especially since the phone wont connect either.

One way to test if its the Modem is to attach a different one and see if it does the same thing, but then you'd need a spare VDSL Modem laying about. :(

Just a suggestion: :2cents: Have a look at the firmware Version, page 311 of Da manual  ( you know if all else fails) VMG8324-B10A&mtname=User%27s%20Guide (www.zyxel.com) shows you how.

Looking at the site, on the left under firmware it says the latest is 1.00(AAKL.7)C0, release date January 30, 2015.

There "May" be some fixes relating to the problem.

Of course with any firmware upgrade there's the potential to have something go wrong, and either make things worse, make no difference or Brick it. :2cents:

I assume you already tried another one, but maybe it's the cable?
