1394193 2015-02-14 05:48:00 You sure the USB port is USB 2? Its not blue is it? Which means its USB 3. Speedy Gonzales (78)

1394195 2015-02-14 09:25:00 Just curious,
So thought I reinstalled Windows 7 starter.

Where did the Windows 7 starter come from, its not available to purchase in NZ, and those netbooks dont come with a recovery DVD. ?

The error message is often caused by as speedy mentioned a USB port.

The other causes as listed by MS are:
This issue occurs for one of the following reasons:

The installation DVD is removed during the setup process.
A low-quality DVD was used to create the installation DVD.
The speed at which the installation DVD was burned was too fast.
The DVD drive cannot read the media.
The ISO file is corrupted.

Depending on where you got the W7 Starter, it could be corrupted. OR have actually had it happen before the problem is the USB drive, change to another and it works OK.

1394197 2015-02-14 22:34:00 As mentioned before, its not officially available to download. There are several places that it looks like the real deal, but after downloading, the MD5 and SHA1 are completely wrong for W7 Starter, and doesn't exist.

The best way to get W7 Starter unless you have a MSDN or old Technet subscription is to use a real W7 x86 DVD and use the eicfg removal tool on the ISO and make a universal DVD, which will give all versions including Starter, then you just need a starter Key to enter.

Sorry, but don't know what MSDN or old Technet subscription are and don't have a W7 x86 DVD.
It is a netbook, that came with Win 7 started on it and has product key on base.
So am unsure what to do now.
Maybe try another Linux distro????

1394199 2015-02-15 08:09:00 The W7 Starter I downloaded is on this site: getintopc.com (Scroll down the page for the blue download button) The MD5 and SHA1 codes dont match the original, BUT I tried it anyway on a old PC, it went in fine. You'll need your own Product Key, I just used the default install keys. ( cant activate them) In the past when needed I've used a universal DVD, and the persons own Product key.

You would need to burn/ create a bootable USB drive. Often you'll find if you try to use the Microsoft ISO tool -- www.microsoft.com It WONT work on that ISO, found it doesn't like them if they are renamed to something else. Eg: the real ISO is called "en_windows_7_starter_x86_dvd_x15-68956.iso" So you need a third party ISO burner for USB drives.

1394201 2015-02-17 23:51:00 Still not happy with it.
Running latest mint 17, but slow as an old wet wig.
Mouse still doing strange things and have replaced batteries.
Before grandkids was running really well, so don't know what else to do.
I did a full format and reinstall of Mint.
Any ideas, please?
Ian
