1394830 2015-02-22 21:54:00 Hello

I have a Gigabyte GA 970A- D3p motherboard and a Coolermaster Case.

I built the system myself and most if it works OK.

However my top panel USB ports do not work.

There are two USB 2.00 ports which work and two USB 3.00 (blue) ports which don't work.

I have connected the cable from the case to the USB 3.00 socket on the motherboard.

My BIOS says that USB is enabled and Device Manager says the port is working.

But when I put a USB memory stick into the ports nothing happens in My Computer or is Disk Management.

Any suggestions?

Any other problems?

I will try them out.

(The manual uses very small lettering to ID them)

1394834 2015-02-23 00:44:00 Amongst your motherboard DVD software is there a USB 3.0 driver?
Even better, have you checked Gigabyte for the latest motherboard drivers?
Have you checked the header panel is connected to the correct port on the motherboard?

Yes it is the correct port on the motherboard, I checked the manual and it is a wide plug.
I have not checked the motherboard software, but I thought I installed all of the drivers.

1394836 2015-02-23 03:45:00 If you connect something with a battery in it like a phone does it start charging? just to check the physical connection.
It's a large keyed socket and the cable tends to be quite fat and stiff. On some cases the plug has a tendency to come out easily or to not stay fully connected. On my last build I had to tie the cable to the case to stop it disconnecting every time I took the side off. My new case however seems to click in and be much more positive making me think there's a retention mechanism the other plug didn't have.

I can't upload from work so there's a picture here showing the plug and header just to confirm (from a different forum and a different problem but still shows what you need) www.tomshardware.com

1394837 2015-02-23 21:35:00 @Dugimodo.

I plugged my smart phone into the USB 3.00s and nothing happens
If I plug the phone into the USB 2.00s the phone says connected to a media device. (nothing in My Computer)
That was a good idea to check that the ports are physically connected.

So Now maybe I need to check the USB cable is plugged in all the way on the motherboard and its connected to the ports under the front panel.

1394838 2015-02-24 01:43:00 Do you know the model of the cooler master case? It's maybe barking up the wrong tree but I remember when USB 3.0 first started showing up the standard for the motherboard header was not finalised and some manufacturers and tech sites were pushing for what is now the standard to be adopted. I wonder if some older cases might not have the right pinouts. I'd have expected if the plug matches for it to be right though. dugimodo (138)
1394839 2015-02-24 04:02:00 Its a Coolermaster Cosmos SE ATX tower case.
I love it because it nice and big inside and has some really strong handles which make it easy for me to lift it up to work on it.
I will see if I get time tomorrow to open it up and check the plug on the motherboard and the USB ports on the top panel to see if they look OK.
