1382360 2014-08-23 10:34:00 I wanted a 15 drawer steel filing cabinet to store electronic components.

A manky example with a real bad 'home' paint job was sold for $380 + shipping costs.

I just bought the same item, but in much better condition, for $2.00 (yes, that is two dollars!)

The reason for the difference?

The first example was listed in antiques and collectables, and the second was listed in office equipment.

It pays to do a global search by item description, that way you can find great bargains, sometimes in unconventional categories.

For sure.
I've seen things in all sorts of categories. Usually cheaper if in the "wrong" one.

That doesn't always apply, f'r instance, Apples listed under computers are still put up with ridiculously high reserves like $10.00 ;)

Yes, it was TM.

I find that the Antiques and Collectables sections have a much higher incidence of outrageous pricing, and almost as many outrageously daft people buying the stuff.

There was one guy trying to sell an old Farnell catalogue for $5 and he posted the ad time & time again, so his listing fees must have easily exceeded his potential return. There is another guy still trying to sell a battery reconditioner dedicated to one model of long obsolete hand-held cellphone or radiotelephone, I forget which, and his listing fees must have exceeded his potential return by a country mile. Not only that, he doesn't answer any questions.

On the other hand, good stuff can go cheaper if in the wrong category, because fewer people see it, so I use specific word searches and refine them as I go until they only bring up the item that I want, no matter what category it was posted to. That was how I found the gold-plated filing cabinet in antiques & collectables.

Hmm......I seem to have been pinged repeat fees on occasion, and I don't use premium listings!

I am aware of the 'multiple photos' charge so I dump my photos into MS Publisher, combine them as a single image then export it as jpg, complete with captions if necessary.
