411567 2005-12-09 07:59:00 Have got this Ambient MD5628D-L-B modem and XP could not detect it. Found and downloaded the driver which contain the following 4 files:

IntelH51.cat
IntelH51.inf
IntelH51.sys
migrate.dll

How do I install the driver for this modem? Tried right-click IntelH51.inf and select install but nothing happens.

Please help

Cheers

411568 2005-12-09 08:16:00 Go thru device manager, find the entry for the modem.

If its showing a ? in device manager, double click on it then go to the driver tab, then update driver, then point it to that .inf file.

No modem is detected in Device Manager, nothing shown.

411570 2005-12-09 08:47:00 Use add hardware in control panel .

Click on next, say yes, then scroll down to add a new hardware device down the bottom, then install the hardware that I manually select from a list .

Then click on show all devices, then click on have disk, click on browse, then point to the folder those 4 files are in . What kind of modem is it? PCI or a serial modem (external modem)?

Is there something in device manager called PCI communication device or something, with a ? beside it?? If the modem is PCI .

Unable to add this hardware manually. It's a PCI modem. Here are all the numbers I got from the PCI card:

Ambient MD5628D-L-B W203QD01-1202AA 0203A
Ambient MD1724T-11VC-B

411572 2005-12-09 09:43:00 See if the BIOS is on plug and plug . If it isnt put it on YES, and save the BIOS settings .

If that doesnt work, take the modem back . And get another one .

Unless its got some kind of jumper on it, or something, you have to move around, for it to work .

411573 2005-12-09 09:44:00 Try it in a different PCI slot Rob99 (151)
411574 2005-12-09 09:47:00 What OS?
if it's XP there are no official drivers for it, stops at Win 2000
If the device isn't detected then try another PCI slot, the one you have it in may be stuffed
If that fails after trying the other posts it's stuffed
I suspect you cant take it back as it's over 3 years old now

411575 2005-12-09 09:54:00 Heres a link for a driver (downloadfinder.intel.com) you can try, from Intel site

When you look in Device Manager are there any devices with a yellow and black '!' beside it?

You may find modem listed as PCI communications device

Are you sure the modem is actually a known working modem?

Is it seated in the slot properly? Check the seating.

Swapped to another slot and the OS detects this beast. It is working fine now. :)
