| 411458 | 2005-12-09 20:32:00 | Just thinking about Sony's problems and audio disc piracy in general, it would be virtually impossible to prevent piracy, because if they finally found a way to effectively and reliably copy-protect digital formats, the music can always be re-encoded from audio with minimal loss of quality and burned back to CD. Enhanced features might be lost, but for "domestic" downloaders intent on listening to the tracks rather than mass reproducing for sale, the end result would be perfectly acceptable. The situation is different for digital data discs of course and vidieo might present some problems, but I think Sony is pushing it uphil at present. Their best approach would be to spend their spare millions getting P2P networks shut down and prosecuting pirates and illegal downloaders. The tracking ability is there for the porn merchants so maybe they could learn from that. The entertainment industry seems to be gaining some limited traction in that area as well (piracy, not porn).
