2005-12-09 09:25:00 | Hi, What is the best buy video card these days? Still the 6600GT? Just for games but no where a game addict. Doing a full system rebuild from scratch. Thanks.

2005-12-09 10:09:00 | The GeForce 6800 GS 256MB PCI Express is a good budget option. | gibler (49) | |
2005-12-11 02:38:00 | i'd recommend the ati radeon x1600pro 256mb which is pretty good value for the price you pay. if you're talking performance, the geforce 7800gtx 512mb will do the job. | jason_f90 (3544) | |
2005-12-11 04:39:00 | All depends on what you can afford: I wouldn't go for 6600 anymore. Heres the list: www.tomshardware.com

2005-12-11 05:06:00 | Thanks for that. I have seen prices on pricespy but I don't live in Auckland. I would prefer to spend within $300 thou $450 would be pushing. All I want is a AMD 64 3200 with a Asus $195 motherboard. So I gather 6600GT and 6800's?

2005-12-12 05:36:00 | Depends on the budget, but if you play high end games nothing lower than a 6800GS/GT. A 6600Gt is OK if you don't mind playing in lower resolutions or 20FPS in games like FEAR with eye candy turned on, I don't reccommend the 6600Gt anymore. Prices here in NZ are out of Sync with much of the world as discussed in other threads, so you could consider bringing one and getting far more for your money, but that's not for everyone.
