Hiya all,

The most confusin of all problem i ever faced is here.

I have a Media Centre PC.
Everything is fine but just this very very weird thing going on with my pc.

All Audio on this pc is working great, like MP3 and all other audio stuff works just awesome.

HOWEVER, when ever i play any .WAV file, the sound clarity is soo feeble i can almost hear my heartbeat. Can here it cool and in right volume when i plug in a HEADPHONE. Just the .WAV dont play with enough volume in the 5.1 Stereo speakers

HELP greatly appreciated.

Thanks

411827 2005-12-11 20:20:00 Is this all .wav files, or just one in particular?

:edit re-read your post. sorry my bad.

Hmm. very odd, .mp3 audio is output the same way .wav files are. If .mp3s were fine I would have thought that .wavs should also be fine.

I've seen some weird stuff happen with 5.1 systems, try forcing the 5.1 to sterio. See if that helps the .wav volume.

Are you using SPDIF to send the 5.1 signal? If so SPDIF has it's own indepentant volume control, otherwise:

Try and find out which codec is being used to play the wav file. If you find that an application such as winamp plays the file at the normal volume then that would indicate that it's a direct show codec problem, as winamp decodes wav files with it's own software.
You might find for example that the AC3 codec is being used to decode WAV files. Viewing the properties of the file in mplayer2.exe should show it using the 'Default DirectSound Device' filter to play the file.
Have you installed any codec 'bundles'? Those bundles tend to give you many redundant and conflicting codecs on your machine....
