412217 2005-12-13 00:06:00 hi my specs are
amd 4000
windows xp sp 2
xt850PE 256 mb
300 gig hd
1 gig of ram

when i am playin games mostly counter strike source they will crash to the desktop or crash my computer and the speakers will give off weird sounds when it happens. I am not sure wether it is the cpu or gfx card causing the games to crash, ati drivers r really unstable for me compared to my nvidia card on my other computer, i dont have the drivers running stable now i cant get the catalyst control center to open and i get error msgs related to the drivers of the ati card when i boot up but the games look good when they play anyway was wondering if anyone knew what might be causing it and if they know any drivers made by anyone other than ati that are stable.

someone told me formatting my hard driver would stop the pc from crashing but i had formatted my hard driver a few months ago before i had counter strike installed. i welcome any hlp thxs.

412218 2005-12-13 01:40:00 To start with fix your driver problem. Uninstall all graphics drivers and software then download the latest ATI driver from their website and install it. pctek (84)

412220 2005-12-18 03:29:00 alrite got the drivers installed properly but still crashing rules out the driver problem, could it be my cpu? or do i have a hardware problem?

412221 2005-12-18 03:42:00 When that happens, do you get a BSOD? Sultan_Emerr (7444)
412222 2005-12-18 03:52:00 Maybe u can check ur RAM with "memtest" do google. I had really buggy RAM on a old PC. Nomad (952)
412223 2005-12-18 04:46:00 Are any other high end games having stability problems?

If no, its probably not going to be hardware. I would be checking this way before doing anything else to try and figure out at least what ball park you are in. One crash on start up may or may not be related, check for overal stability first, not just focusing on game.
