412744 2005-12-15 00:21:00 I recently tried to do a repair install of my win xp pro, but it would get to the blu e set-up screen and freeze around the installing devices part. I then reconfigured my ide cables connected to my cd-rom drives and attempted it again. The second time, i let it run and after the windows logo screen finished loading, my screen would flicker once and then i would see my mouse which i could move around. I've tried to reinstall windows xp pro a few times after this fiasco but to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions or solutions to this? Thanks in advance! SilverDragon89 (8832)
412745 2005-12-15 01:51:00 Why were you doing the repair in the first place? What problem was it giving?
Are you sure you have your cabling correct now?

412746 2005-12-15 01:54:00 Windows XP Pro would freeze at the login screen whenever i turned on my computer when it hasn't been on for awhile. Yes, i'm sure my cabling is right. SilverDragon89 (8832)
412747 2005-12-15 04:27:00 And did it do this freeze in safe mode too?
If not then most likely a driver or app install issue.

The most drastic fix would be a fresh clean install after formatting....

412748 2005-12-15 08:27:00 Yes, it did freeze in safe mode as well.

Is the only option to reformat the whole drive then?

412749 2005-12-15 08:32:00 Disconnect everything but the hdd / cpu / videocard and ram (just pull the ide cables off the cd's/dvd's .

Then see what happens .

Can you hear any beeps, when it boots up??

None of the ide connections going to the cd/s are connected to any of the hdd/s are they?

412750 2005-12-15 11:11:00 No, I didn't hear any beeping coming from my computer .

Also no is that my cd/dvd drives are connected by different ide cables than my hard drive .

I still get a blank screen when i attemp to start windows and can't seem to get into the second part of the set-up process .
