412645 2005-12-14 17:01:00 Is there any way of improving the quality of programmed pictures? That is pictures written into the program as opposed to photograps or video. This may sound a silly question. I doubt if I can make the image look any better than it is programmed to look.
Why I ask is I have seen screen shots that are much better quality than I can get on my monitor.
I seem to get a lot of shimmying. Some verticals move up and down. The general impression I get sometimes is simliar to a slightly out of focus photo.

I use anti-aliasing at full quality setting. Ditto anastropic filtering. Trilinear filtering. In fact my video card settings are all at maximum quality. Reducing quality settings does not help.
One thing I note is that when running 3D Mark the test pictures are near perfect.

Card is 256 meg x800xl and monitor a 19" Viewsonic VX924.

412646 2005-12-14 17:39:00 Not really sure what you are meaning Jack, but have you checked your monitor's refresh rate is on 85 Hz (or even 75)? A low refresh rate can cause shimmering and flickering visually. Also have a look on how many millions of colours it is set on - put it on the highest setting.

Another thing to look for is whether a high screen resolution is trying to stretch a lower resolution image a bit which makes it blurry. What resolution are you using?

Hmm ... reading you post again, I think you are asking why screenshots taken by you seem a lower visual/image quality?

I assume we are talking about your flight simulator?. Keep in mind if the screen shots you are referring to are released by the vendor (software company), they may well be digitally enhanced or taken from a source other than the game itself (advertising artwork). Cheap tricks to make the game look better and convince you to buy it, this isn't exactly uncommon.

412649 2005-12-16 08:03:00 You don't use high refresh rates on an LCD. If using DVI leave it at 60Hz, and if VGA use whatever the monitor recommends. MikeS (756)
412650 2005-12-16 11:05:00 Not really sure what you are meaning JackWhy do some people refer to jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj as Jack, but don't use other people's names in posts when replying to them? Hmmm. Greg (193)
412651 2005-12-16 11:11:00 Pretty sure we all call you Greg, Greg.

Muhahahahaha.

JJJJ isn't a name or even a word which is why I don't use it, I would feel silly vocalising JJJJ, but then, I cringe when people in real life ask me if I'm Metla from pressf1.....

When I first signed up PF1 wouldn't accept Jack as a log in. So I just held my finger on The "J" until the name was accepted. Then I had to experiment untill I found the right number of J's.
Just call me Jack. After all it is my name. :D
