412586 2005-12-14 05:55:00 I recently replaced the hard drive on my computer to an SATA one. I replaced the 8GB IDE HD (a placeholder) with the SATA Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 200GB. Upon boot, after an unusual ~1 second delay, my CDRW/DVD drive was detected, and then the system hanged after saying "Detecting IDE Drives" for a second time.
This readout might make it clearer...

IDE Channel 0 Master : None
IDE Channel 0 Slave : ATAPI COMBO52XMAX VER 1.00
IDE Channel 1 Master : None
IDE Channel 1 Slave : None

Detecting IDE Drives ... -Hangs here-

The computer booted fine with the ID HD, an I'm pretty sure I've installed the SATA HD correctly.

412587 2005-12-14 06:00:00 Hi

You cannot put a sata hard drive on an ide port. If your motherboard does not have sata connectors you will need to by an adaptor card to put in the pci slots to connect the sata hard drive

412589 2005-12-14 06:08:00 I know you can't connect an SATA HD to an IDE port, my Mobo does have SATA connectors, and I have plugged the HD in correctly, its not like the keyed connectors allow you to do otherwise.
And I forgot to mention, my Mobo is an MSI K7N2 Delta2-LSR.

412590 2005-12-14 06:20:00 It doesnt look like its detecting anything else but the cd.

Did you connect the power cable from the sata to a spare molex connection from the PSU? It needs the data and the power cable for the sata to get recognised.

Looks like the SATA should be on IDE 1 master. IDE Master 0 would have been the normal IDE hdd.
