412679 2005-12-14 21:57:00 Rob, you opened this up and got me wondering if there's a "small" description of the differences and values for having either the PCI v AGP......I am especially interested in the NVIDIA GForce MX440 w/AGPEX and just what is NVIDIA anyway?...
Small description: They are different ways of connecting your graphics card to your motherboard.

PCI ->slow
AGP ->better
PCI-E ->fast

edit:this is just the speed it connects to the rest of the PC. You can still have a slow graphics card connected to your PC real fast :-)

Nvidia is the name of the company that made the "engine" of your graphics card. In the same way rolls royce makes the engines for boeing 747s

412680 2005-12-14 22:22:00 Are they one and the same?Yes.

PCI will go on nearly any PC out new or old, mosts PC's have a PCI slot, same as what a modem is plugged into.
PCI Speed=133 MB/s

AGP will only plug into later model PC, this is a special slot on the motherboard for an AGP card.
1XAGP Speed=254.3 MB/s most cards are 4X or 8X

PCI-E is what computers are being built with today.
1XPCI-E Speed=254.3 MB/s most cards are 16X

412681 2005-12-14 23:49:00 Indeed,and is there a difference between them.?
Are they one and the same?

They are as different as a "car" and an "automobile"

They are as different as "two weeks" and a "fortnight"

412683 2005-12-15 03:45:00 From the movie Bladerunner:

Holden: You're in a desert, walking along in the sand when all of a sudden you look down...
Leon: What one?
Holden: What?
Leon: What desert?
Holden: It doesn't make any difference what desert, it's completely hypothetical.
Leon: But, how come I'd be there?
Holden: Maybe you're fed up. Maybe you want to be by yourself. Who knows? You look down and see a tortoise, Leon. It's crawling toward you...
Leon: Tortoise? What's that?
Holden: You know what a turtle is?
Leon: Of course!
Holden: Same thing.

412684 2005-12-15 03:58:00 Leon: Of course!
Holden: Same thing.
Hmm that conversation could have ended better for Holden.

A turtle and a tortoise are not the same thing. One is a land animal and the other seagoing.
