| 412440 | 2005-12-14 23:22:00 | exactly . . . Windows XP pro . I tried disabling each service one by one and restarting then trying to log on again and the only one that seems to affect it is the WebClient service . As soon as I disable WebClient the machine boots up and runs fine . I can access the Web and utilize network resources . Seems that this ( . microsoft . com/kb/832161/EN-US/" target="_blank">support . microsoft . com) describes the problem fairly well . . . although the implication seems to be that it shouldn't be a problem with SP2 . |

| 412441 | 2005-12-15 00:35:00 | Is XP SP2's firewall enabled? Would this make any difference? What does Event viewer say in XP?? Any errors? |

| 412442 | 2005-12-15 02:15:00 | It's almost certainly one of the security things ... checking all the policy settings on the whole (large?) network. Can you put a network monitor like Ethereal on to see what happens when you do this? The messages might give a hint on what to shoot. ;) | Graham L (2) | ||
| 412443 | 2005-12-15 14:05:00 | firewalls on local machines are all disabled, but we did have 2 machines that had it on for quite some time awhile back and it never caused any problems . There were no changes made to the network anywhere near the time the problem began to occur . . . except to add a couple more XP machines to the network and to remove a couple of 2000 desktops . At least I have somewhere to start now . When I find the solution (other than just turning off the service) I will post it here . |
