Of course being second hand you wont get no warranty and every so often they do have 'sales' to get rid of excess stock. I got my Laser Printer, Keyboard and UPS from there and I dont have any problems with it. You'd find this part of their site more relevant (www.the-ark.co.nz) |

| 412271 | 2005-12-13 07:35:00 | None of that is going to help . It is a very old monitor and has probably just had the electronic equivalent of a heart attack . This: P . S . The screen was everywhere . . . . size and shape all wrong is the biggest clue . There is only one practical thing you can do, and that is try it on another computer just to reassure yourself that it really is stuffed . As others have pointed out, a much better and bigger second-hand monitor can be bought for peanuts now . Cheers Billy 8-{)Is your name zahmad? If noit, I obviously wasn't talking to you . You obviously haven't been around PF1 long enough to know that Billy is one of the resident experts on monitor disorders with a wealth of experience. His comments are usually on the nail with diagnosing wonky CRT's. :) | Jen (38) | ||

Can enayone suggest where I can get good second hand monitors, and where from (in Auckland) and what brands (I hear Phillips and AOC are good ones, other than going all the way to a turners auction! You can also throw an ad on Trade F1 (see Metlas signature for the link).. there may be one there.. the members are not into ripping you off either :) | Myth (110) | ||

| 412276 | 2005-12-13 23:38:00 | How much should i pay on average for second hand 15" and 17" CRT's respectively? Thanks to all your help, but is there any problem with me still using the monitor? as it still works, except is darker. zahmed There is no problem using the monitor as is, it will tell you if it is going to have a major, but don't leave it running unattended, turn it off if you have to go out! Do try to check it on another computer or even a laptop if you can, just in case it is an obscure video card fault. For a replacement, try phoning RCN & Associates Ltd. They dispose of ex-lease equipment at good prices and will exchange a unit if it has a problem. You will get a 15" for next to nothing, a 17" will cost very little and a good 19" will be around $100-$125. I got my IBM 19" from them for $125. They are at Albany on the North Shore, but they are worth the visit. The building is very anonymous (no signage) but it is on the right of the driveway at the front and you go in the front door, turn right and go up the stairs. Took me a while to find them, if you go there you will see why. Phone number is 413 8533 email: brad@rcn.co.nz. They will give you the address if you sound serious, they don't welcome tire-kickers or browsers, it is not a shopfront. They mainly do bulk deals but will sell one-off's, take cash. Don't buy smaller than 17" and you wouldn't regret going to 19". Cheers Billy 8-{) |

| 412278 | 2005-12-14 06:01:00 | How much do you mean by "next to nothing" and "will cost very little", and cheers for the advice! :) Between $25 and $75 for 15" or 17", you have to do some work for yourself on this zahmed, I provided a supplier and a phone number for you . P . S:Am I better of trademe though? If you have plenty of time, can select from a choice of monitors, win the auction, and get a replacement if it doesn't work? Possibly, but unlikely, best you try it and see . Cheers Billy 8-{) |
