412667 2005-12-14 19:39:00 Silly question for you gurus.
Is there a difference between a video card and a graphics card,if so what is the diff?
Someone is telling me they are synonymous.

412668 2005-12-14 19:47:00 There is only a few types, they fit in different slots on the mother board.

PCI = Old computer
AGP = common over the last few years and slowly beeing phased out
PCI-E = the next generation

Then there is the engine difference some use a Nvidia, others use ATI.

They come in different engine sizes and prices to match the performance.

Video card, Graphics card, VGA card - it all means the card that is used for your display.

Rob, you opened this up and got me wondering if there's a "small" description of the differences and values for having either the PCI v AGP......I am especially interested in the NVIDIA GForce MX440 w/AGPEX and just what is NVIDIA anyway?

This is outta my ballpark (An American baseball term that might also apply to where NZ'rs play that game where they kick a black and white ball around for a while).

Can you or anyone else make some general comments on the differences...and not necessarily in gamer's terms..OK? I know this is very simple stuff but I missed all the upgrades for the time after I quit using my old C>64. Where do I stand with the card I am now using?

Indeed, and is there a difference between them.?
Are they one and the same?

412673 2005-12-14 20:51:00 Yep, all means the same thing. Just different names is all. One person calls it a graphics card another calls it a display card but it is the same thing. Tukapa (62)
412674 2005-12-14 20:58:00 I like to throw a spanner in the works and call it a 3D accelerator..... Metla (12)
412675 2005-12-14 21:06:00 Also some cards have additional video processing features, like video in, tv in etc. i.e. the ATI All-in-Wonder series of cards.

You can also get dedicated video capture cards. Just to confuse the mix.

412676 2005-12-14 21:16:00 I might change to nvidia graphics as most games comes with recommendations to use nvidia (...the way it is meant to be played)
As I got an nforce chipset...I'm using ati graphics...
