412539 2005-12-13 22:36:00 Hi,

The time it takes for my system to load is quite long so I've decided to turn off some services from the System Configuration Utility. However I am not sure what each service is for. Below are the services that startup everytime the computer starts.

Can anyone tell me what each service is for, whether it is necessary for running the computer and which services I should turn off?

Btw, my computer is connected to a home network so I won't be able turn off services related to this.

Thanks
Michael

412542 2005-12-13 22:53:00 Yes I have looked in the startup tab and unticked the programs I don't want running. There is a program however that is ticked even though I unticked it so many times - xgmgif. I am thinking that this is a virus. How can I remove it?

Also, is there a way to remove the programs from the startup list that are unticked - I have so many that are unticked.

From here (www.spywareinfo.com)

Unzip it into its own folder, and scan and copy and paste the log here.

412545 2005-12-13 23:17:00 You can remove programs from the startup list, rather than just disabling them,
using Spybot Search & Destroy.
