| 413304 | 2005-12-16 22:04:00 | Hello, can anyone help with Windows XP Pro network, 3 x PC's, 2 x Admin, 1 x Guest, with printer attached to Guest. Want to have printer available all three, but not allow Guest to view other two shared folders. At present network wizard sets up file and printer sharing and works fine, except as mentioned we want to prevent Guest from seeing other computers. Thanks | 134 (9431) | ||

If you want the two others to share files, right click on the shared directories, and select "Properties". That should have a "sharing" tab, which will let you configure the sharing. |

My point is (I think!) that we don't want file sharing enabled on the Guest one, just printer sharing, so the Guest can't view the two Admin computer files, but the Admin ones can still print to the Guest's printer. To try what you are suggesting should we disable "file and printer sharing" then just setup sharing on the particular folders that are to be shared. Will this then remove the "Shared Documents" folder in each Admin computer? Also if we disable "file and print sharing" on the Guest one, can we still just setup to share the printer? Thanks again. |

| 413307 | 2005-12-17 21:33:00 | the two admin machines are they ntfs file systems if so just disable the guest account on the admin machines and that should stop access to admin machines from the guest machine. or Im not sure on this one but put the two admin machines in a different workgroup to the guest machine this may stop the admin machines from seeing the share on guest. another idea is pop down to tricky dicky and buy an ip print server and use xp ip printing wizard to contect to the printer takes about 5 minutes per machine to setup good luck |
