413126 2005-12-16 04:37:00 I didn't install any new hardware but I have unplugged and replugged the cables after cleaning inside the case.

Can someone please tell me what might've brought about this warning message?

Thanks.

413127 2005-12-16 04:39:00 You need a IDE cable with a blue connector, on one end.

The blue connector connects to the motherboard. This is a 80 wire IDE cable.

413128 2005-12-16 04:58:00 Is it possible that the IDE cables for the CD and hard-drive have been mixed up ? The 80 conductor cable should be connected to the hard-drive and the correct place on the motherboard ; the 40 conductor cable connects the cd/ dvd to the motherboard KatiMike (242)
413129 2005-12-16 05:02:00 80 wire can also go on cd/dvd's .

I was using a 40 wire previously on these dvd burners . And replaced both with 80 wire . It took them from DMA 2 to DMA 4 . It made a big difference .

413130 2005-12-16 06:37:00 If you are unsure what you have connected; look at these pics (but don't buy from here, this is just to show the difference)

40 Wire IDE (www.computercablestore.com)
80 Wire IDE (www.computercablestore.com)

Note that (as already mentioned), one has different coloured connectors at each end, and the cable on an 80 wire IDE is finer (the cable is almost flat, not so bumpy)
