413023 2005-12-15 22:39:00 Unfortunately, a mate has been playing on the Internet and seems to have clicked a yes when it should have been NO. Anyway, he has wound up with a taskbar, or something similar, down the right-hand of his screen. He tells me it used to have ICONS but he managed to get rid of them. I suspect the method used was rather agricultural so now he just has a grey bar that comes and goes as you pass the cursor over it.

I wonder if it may have been a Yahoo tool bar or similar but I can’t seem to find any reference to Yahoo anywhere.

Any suggestions on how to remove it?? :)

413025 2005-12-16 01:11:00 Presuming he has xp and If he has sp2 installed he should be able to goto .
Tools/manage addons/ then disable it from there.

Or try the app here.

413026 2005-12-16 08:39:00 Thanks guys but the problem still exists!!!!!

I’ve run: spybot – AdAware - & ewido. Picked up some rubbish but not what I’m looking for. Nortons AV found nothing. Toolbarcop couldn’t help either!

I thought I’d get smart and use the RESTORE facility, but no matter what date I choose all I got was unable to restore, try another date!!!

It’s just a total naked tool bar that pokes out of the right hand side of the screen when the cursor is passed over it.

413027 2005-12-16 10:04:00 Hello BM. Perhaps you might care to give us a screenshot to provide us a better understanding of your woes. Have you tried right-clicking the bar and somehow explore any options that might pop up?

Cheers :)

413028 2005-12-16 10:23:00 It is possible that the Common Task Pane has decided to park itself on the desktop. It is a grey task pane about 4cm wide and normally has on it icons for "other places", "details", "folder tasks" (or similar). Does that sound like what he had?

I'm taking it the OS is XP? Have a look at the registry entry given here (www.dougknox.com) and make sure the correct one matches what you have. If not, run the fix they supply.

413029 2005-12-16 20:32:00 Thank you Jen, that fixed it.

Talk about one from out of left field. I'd never have sorted it so thanks again. :)

413030 2005-12-16 21:05:00 Glad it solved the problem. :)

One of the guys at work managed to get the Common Task Pane on his desktop (no idea how!) and your description sounded familiar.
