412951 2005-12-15 08:18:00 Help! Our computer keeps re-starting without going into Windows. We're running Windows XP Professional. And error message keeps coming up:

"We apologise for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this."

Then further down down the error message it gives 4 options:

* Safe Mode
* Safe Mode with Networking
* Safe Mode with Command Prompt

* Last known Good Configuration (your most recent....that worked).

Unfortunately, none of the above 4 options works. The computer gets to the "Satrting Windows" and then it re-starts the computer.

What should I do? Your help will be apprieciated.

412954 2005-12-15 08:34:00 A game - Stunt Track Challenge kfoffice (9242)
412955 2005-12-15 08:45:00 If u can uninstall when u go into Last Known Good Config, uninstall that game. Then reboot.

See if it boots normally, then / but if it doesnt boot it wont be that game.

I doubt tho, that a game would make a system unusable.

What else is in the case, besides the hdd/cd/dvd/ram/cpu/videocard??

Any PCI cards?

If it doesnt boot after u uninstall that game, see if you can go into the BIOS, set it back to the defaults and reconfigure the BIOS, and save the settings in the BIOS. Then see if it boots.

Your help will be apprieciated.Go to control panel/ system / advanced Tab/ startup and recovery box/ settings button/ sytem failure and uncheck "restart on system failure" ( take the check out of automatically restart box ) , and check the Write a system event, and the Admin alert boxes (check "send admin alert"). This will force a BSOD on the next restart that posts the Stop Error Code. On the next re-starth write down the exact Stop Error Code and post that exact error here back on this thread.
Also, when you get to the point that you are able to, go to your device manager (devmgmt.msc) and check the properties and look for anything suspicious and check that the settings are where they should be.

412957 2005-12-15 18:33:00 If none of that helps you will probably have to do a repair install. Boot off the Windows CD, choose Enter to Install at the first opion screen, then choose R to Repair at the second. pctek (84)
412958 2005-12-15 18:45:00 Go to control panel/ system / advanced Tab/ startup and recovery box/ settings button/ sytem failure and uncheck "restart on system failure" ( take the check out of automatically restart box ) ,............GOOD trick when they cant start the puter and it wont even go near windows........... drcspy (146)
412959 2005-12-15 18:46:00 I'd go with the repair install drcspy (146)

Yes, I figure that could help if they could ever manage to just once get that far, but if they can't then the point in your last post, and by pctek, RE: "go with the repair install" seems to be about it, providing that the steps posted by Speedy Gonzoles haven't moved things forward.
