412891 2005-12-15 07:51:00 There's one called WOCAR which I used a while ago - it was okish back then, but you'll have to see what's happened with it now. somebody (208)
412892 2005-12-15 07:58:00 Hi Sam* Anything you get depends on the type face it is trying to copy, the quality of the print, marks or folds in the paper and so on. I would download a few of the freebees and try each against a single document and make a decision. None are perfect. Scouse (83)
412893 2005-12-15 09:18:00 FineReader is a very good OCR program from a Russian software company. Versions 4 or 5 have been on UK magazine cover disks. PaulD (232)

It comes with Canon scanner? Is this considered as 'free'?

412896 2005-12-16 14:58:00 I use TexrBridgePro (www.pcworld.com) .....it is very intuitive and after a short time of "training" both you and the program, it can even read my handwriting.

It ain't free, but it comes with many (read: Panasonic, Memorex) flatbeds. The 42-bit flat scanner from Memorex is just $49.99 here in the States, and if you buy TextBridgePro alone, it's a lot more.
