| 413241 | 2005-12-16 13:41:00 | The other day I was having trouble with my Win XP Home system and I tried to do a system restore to fix it. The last five restore points didn't work! :annoyed: What causes this? What can be done to get a system restore to work if it doesn't want to? |

| 413242 | 2005-12-16 14:23:00 | What problems did you have before you tried system restore? I would turn system restore off, reboot, fix all the problems, switch system restore back on if you wanted to. |

In start/control panel/system/system restore/ , have you set the slider at least at 5%? |

| 413245 | 2005-12-16 17:51:00 | Why didn't it work? Can you be a bit more specific. Did you receive an error message saying the restore had failed? (and what was the exact error message) Was it because what you were trying to fix, wasn't fixed? System Restore builds upon the previous restore point. If one has been corrupted then the subsequent points will also be corrupted. All really depends upon what specific problem you are having. |

I didn't know that restore points were incremental . My computer was acting like it had a virus, or spybot or something of the sort . Something was trying to dial out continuously and other things, which I don't remember at the moment . I ran NAV . Ad-aware and Spybot S&D; all up to date, for no result . Nothing was asking Zone Alarm for permission to dial out and there was nothing new in Startup, Task Manager or Ad Remove Programs . I also ran Symantec One Button Checkup, but forgot the Utilities Registry scan- Didn't think of that till now . Wen I tried to do a system restore, I got a message saying that the restore had failed . This happened 5 times in a row with different restore points! The problem(s) ceased so I guess that a restart was all that was needed . :) |

Glad that it worked for you . :) |
