414178 2005-12-22 22:04:00 What are the total parts in the computer?? HD been formatted right?

Why don't you pull the HD out and do a bootdisk with memtest and scan ur ram.

Download the diagnostic software from ur WD HD website on bootdisk and do a scan.

Take out any pci card u have.

414179 2005-12-25 20:09:00 I used the windows CD to boot and then formatted..should I have formatted the HD a different way? Havion (9450)
414180 2005-12-25 20:50:00 What file system did you select - ntfs or FAT? You could always try the opposite. Greg (193)

414182 2005-12-27 19:51:00 Has the computer ever lasted more than a few minutes before rebooting? Myth (110)
414183 2005-12-27 20:42:00 how is the cpu fan, good good? If it fails could be overheat.

I would first up do a download of a memtest to scan ram. (www.memtest86.com)

When you download it double click on it with floppy disk in drive to make a copy and boot using that floppy disk.

414184 2005-12-29 06:21:00 Fan is good, ram is good. Has it lasted for a few mins, yes.

I think it's the HD. I pulled the HD from my old PC, popped it in the new PC and did a boot from the Windows XP CD and reformatted. I think i'm just going to hook it up as a 2nd'ary drive and see what happens.

414185 2005-12-29 07:44:00 No.. my question was has it ever lasted for MORE than a few minutes?

I am suspecting there is no thermal grease between the heatsink and the cpu causing the cpu to overheat and shut down the computer... or maybe the heatsink isnt doing its job for some reason.

414186 2005-12-30 18:18:00 About 10 mins... I can't remember but the fan came right from intel and the last 3 I got had thermal grease between the heatsink and the cpu. Havion (9450)
