414642 2005-12-21 09:48:00 I got a new SATA II drive on a SATA I mobo . Seagate .
Seagate diagnostic softwares says *at the bottom*
I have 2 partitions, both on NTFS (WinXP) .
I've done all tests except the "full scan" . Tests that had passed are not enclosed here - to save space .


Via the mobo bios if SATA mode is switched to IDE, when you power up from fresh it does not boot up but if you press CTRL ALT DEL it boots afterwards, a reset or restart also boots fine . However in bios if you switch SATA mode to RAID it boots all the time . I only have one HDD on the machine . In terms of operational errors, I had none .

Should I be alert with the softwares findings?

Recommendation:
All selected physical diagnostics passed .

If you are not experiencing data loss and SeaTools reports File
System Structure errors, they may be caused by a lock-up or
failure to shutdown Windows correctly . Many times, these errors
may be repaired through normal system maintenance which
includes using the Windows provided "Defrag" and
"Scandisk / Chkdsk / Error Checking" utilities .

If you are experiencing a hardware error, you should isolate
the cause and replace the failing component . If you are unsure how
to proceed with repairs, contact a computer professional . After
completing any maintenance tasks, run SeaTools again to
verify that all errors have been repaired . If errors continue to
occur, the system may not be stable . Again, contact a computer
professional .

414643 2005-12-21 10:04:00 I'd just boot to Windows and run the Error checking test on the partitions (especially number one partition), before worrying. If the NTFS formatted disk passes that test it should be okay. gibler (49)

I assume you're always doing a normal Windows shutdown on a NTFS volume. There's a NTFS flushlog handled on shutdown that sometimes can cause a little HDD confusion if the PC unexpectadely loses power. 		kingdragonfly (309)
