414467 2005-12-21 20:27:00 gidday,

I have used both, they both do a good job, however avast has more
whistles and bells than avg, it checks everything, I think if you
asked it it would wash your car! lol

In saying that, avast has a tendency to slow the computer a little although
they are working on the problem, and avg has no real effect on performance.

good luck,

Robby

414469 2005-12-21 20:45:00 Everytime I come here I feel so validated in my choice to use NOD32. :D Personally with the antivirus X vs antivirus Y vs antivirus Z debate is less important to me as how often you update it.

Please update your AV as often as possible. I get nervous if I'm checking my mail on a machine that is a day behind, let alone a week.

414470 2005-12-21 20:46:00 Just as a little note of interest, the latest program update of Avast has introduced "iNews" to notify users of the latest news. Got a Merry Christmas greeting (www.topazz.orcon.net.nz) from them when I fired up this morning.

Rather nice. :)

414471 2005-12-21 22:31:00 Antivir is the worst free antivirus I've ever seen, never used it just going on stats at 100% Rob99 (151)
414472 2005-12-21 22:56:00 What do you guys think of the PAID version of AVG, or is that just paying for something that others get free?? Read on a US forum good things about the ZoneAlarm antivirus program. if it is as good as their firewall I would consider paying a little for that.

Cheers

If you were going to pay for an antivirus program pay for NOD32

414474 2005-12-21 23:49:00 Is Avast slower than Norton's antivirus? How about McFee or however you spell it?
I use anti-vir & my parents use Avast. I would be inclined to say Avast is better.

414475 2005-12-22 00:05:00 I have seen grass grow quicker then Nortons, so Avast would be having to do something pretty badly to sink to their level.

In fact, I reckon Nortons products would fail to get any market share if they were free. Here have this, its free, It will slow your system to a crawl and most probally break it as well.....

God bless marketing and big shiny retail boxes.
