414330 2005-12-20 22:50:00 Hi,
i use a Belkin pre N wireless router with a notebook with preN wireless network card. works great. now for the desktop thats a different story, the Belkin PCI card is a pain and should not be sold.
A US forum recommended me the Linksys WMP54GX card for my desktop as this has also the Arigo chipset and works with true MIMO (and as far as I know this is for Belkin the definition of pre N).
Do you guys think that the Linksys card is compatible in the turbo boosted 11g network? Will i have the same speed/reach profits as I have using belkins standards?

Cheers and thanks

Johan

414331 2005-12-21 00:53:00 WiFi cards are made to standards, and can carry the WiFi logo.

Belkin's "PreN" products are not standard: the standard has not been agreed on and issued, so they can't conform. They are guaranteed to work only with other Belkin "PreN" devices.

Do Linksys say that card will work with Belkin's PreN non-standard? It might work with the Belkin only if both step down to "b". :D

414332 2005-12-21 02:14:00 Been googling around a little and had some feedback from US forums. it appears that SRX (Linksys) and Pre-N (relates to the coming 11n standard) (Belkin) are both a different word for exactly the same thing. It works by sending packages of data over 3 radio's and picking up by 3 radios, the data then being fixed again. This leads to dramatic increase in speed and thanks to the aerial technology to a gain of 100 foot under typical conditions.
What I will do now is buying the Linksys card for my desktop and then use the fast technology with my Belkin router.
I use Pre N from notebook to that router and must admit I was impressed by the gain of speed compared to a straight forward 11g card.
I just do not want to buy Belkin again after the debacle with their service.

Cheers

Johan
