| 415227 | 2005-12-23 08:48:00 | Has anyone else tried WinZip 10 from the Dec/Jan PC World DVD? I tried it and quickly re-installed WinZip 9. First of all, the registration that has worked OK for years on various versions does not work for Version 10. So all you get is an evaluation version (unless you pay more $$$). But even worse, they've completely changed how it works. I guess it does lots more things and is more flexible, but in the process, they've made it much too complicated. IMHO, that is |

| 415228 | 2005-12-23 08:51:00 | To be honest, WinZip has become merely improvements in compatibility rather than compression. Compared the the likes of WinRAR or 7zip, WinZip falls short. My two cents. |

| 415229 | 2005-12-23 09:25:00 | I hadn't heard of 7zip, so I just downloaded it and tried it on a directory containing 95Mb of data including 3 30 Mb binary files. 7zip: 15 Mb compressed file in 1 min 48 s WinZip 9: 37 Mb compressed file in < 20 s. So, I guess if you want better compression, you pay for it in increased time to do it. BTW, I'm using an AMD 64 w/ 2Mb RAM. |
