415099 2005-12-23 02:27:00 It's fairly easy to do. Go into bios and disable on-board sound. Switch off comp, unplug for safety, open comp case and look for spare PCI-e slot... you may have to remove a bit of the covering plate on the back of the case if you haven't already got a hole for the sound card out sockets to go. Follow instructions in instruction manual (like most males would do!)

Boot up comp and it should detect new hardware, install drivers etc from CD as prompted and you're away. (Don't forget to plug speakers into new souns card sockets instead of the old ones!)

Of course someone else will say I'm totally wrong just for the hell of it. :nerd:

415102 2005-12-23 10:33:00 When you boot up (switch on) your comp you get a black screen that will say 'press delete key to enter setup' ... or something similar depending on your motherboard. Hit delete key before windows starts loading and you will be at the bios screen.

In newer bios you are looking for 'onboard devices configuration' and in that menu will be something like 'onboard AC97 audio' with options to enable or disable. Disable then save and exit out of bios and continue to load Windows. Shut down comp again and open case to install soundcard.

If you're not comfortable fishing around in the bios you can install new sound card/load drivers etc but some sound cards throw a fit if the onboard sound isn't disabled and some don't.

If you know what motherboard/bios you've got someone else may be able to advise with more detailed instructions.

If you have built in video you can't remove it.

1 / shut down your PC turn OFF at wall but leave it plugged in !< acts as earth install your new card, then reboot press whatever key gets you into your BIOS
2 /In your BIOS you should find something saying "Enable/Disable on board graphics", disable it! "Save and exit the BIOS"

When your PC boots up it should find the new vid card and if it can't find the drivers will ask you to put it the disk/CD, should install the drives
! and you are good to go.
Would recommend going to your new cards website and make sure you have the latest drivers for it.

hope this helps
