415363 2005-12-23 23:38:00 Hi there,
My computer either reboots or the monitor cuts out. Even if I try to do a Nortons scan of the hard drive it will get so far and the the computer reboots.
I have had the occasional occurance of doing a Webroot Spy Sweeper ver 4.5 scan of the drive and the computer has cut out and rebooted.
I have tried playing a couple of games I have and some dont even start and the computer reboots.
If I use the computer to connect to the internet or work in Microsoft Office or have several applications open at one time I have no problems.
My computer is Athlon 3200 with a Soltek SL-75FRN-RL motherboard, 512 MB Ram, Windows XP Home Edition with SP2 updates installed, 350 watt power supply, Leadtek A6600 GT TDH Graphics card, DVD/CD Writer, CD/CD Writer, HP Deskjet 960c printer, HP Scanjet 4400CC, Creative 5300 5.1 Subwoofer with 5x Satellite speakers sound system, Microsoft Force Feedback 2 joystick.
Is my problem a power supply problem? I would appreciate any help in tracking down the fault. Thanks

415364 2005-12-23 23:49:00 Unplug the printers, speakers, joystick and if possible an optical drive.
Give the computer a run and see how it goes.

Did you just recently install that 6600 graphics card?

Its possible the PS may be having trouble.

Also what do you mean by 'cutting out' for the monitor?
- Does it go into standby mode?
- And when does it happen?

Also, right click 'My computer' / Select 'Advanced' tab / Click 'Settings' under 'Startup and Recovery' / and make sure there is no tick next to 'Automatically Restart'.
Reboot if nesscary. If its a game crashing you should then get a Blue Screen which might help in diagnosing problems.

415367 2005-12-24 08:38:00 Hi bob doe, In the last few weeks I have installed Nortons Systemworks 2005, Webroot Spy Sweeper Ver 4.05, and the 6600 GT Graphic Card and that order. However after I installed Nortons Systemworks the computer would Reboot completely when running a scan of the drive. This seemed to come right about a week later when I tried it again. I also experienced the same with Webroot Spy Sweeper which seemed to come right also. Just last week I bought the Graphics card after previously running with a FX5900 XT. However in the last 12 months probably once or twice with the FX5900 XT I have had the message that the graphic card had selected a lower setting as if the system may have been struggling for power? Occasional it is only the monitor thats goes black and the LCD light on the monitor on/off button goes orange rather than green. I can press the on/off switch on the monitor which shows green but the message on the screen says no signal. The Harddrive/CPU however can still be going fine. My suspicions are that it is struggling for power and the faster Graphics card is making the difference where as before I may have been borderline? I will try disconnecting a few things to see if that makes a difference. Would the 350 Watt power supply be struggling with what I have connected?? - Thanks for your help. FordXR6 (9469)
