There is no K8NE-E. There is K8N-E. Or K8N4-E.

You need to look at the motherboard manual - the memory configuration diagram.
It shows single sided and double sided combinations.
For DDR400, 333, etc.
Its very specific about which slots to use depending on what exact ram you are using.
Sory about the xtra "E". A K8N-E DeLuxe

416268 2005-12-28 22:02:00 Hello Jack. You didn't mention anything about DIMM 4. Does it exist on your motherboard? From what I know, RAMs are normally paired based on DIMM 1 and 3 or DIMM 2 and 4. Perhaps Asus has its own way of doing.

Cheers :)
No dim 4. Three ram slots. Supports 3 megs total

Rambo double sided. DDR 400. Identical. But not sold as matched pair.

Note the overclocking by 10%

Things may have changed since that post but I think the motherboard may be the same.

No changes since then. Except no longer overclocked.

According to the memory configuration chart your board will only support doublesided DDR400 in Dimm1 & Dimm2
If you want to run 3Dimms then you must knock them all down to 3x singlesided @333
or
1x doublesided in Dimm1 & singlesided in Dimm2 & Dimm3 @333

But further down the list it says doublesided DDR400 is supported in 1 & 3
I suspect this is a misprint

You are quite correct. but right at the bottom it says 3 double sided at 200.
Seems though that if you are useing double sided the first stick must be in dim 1
So if I buy another double sided and put it in dim 3 they will only run at 200.
Would three at 200 be any improvement on two at 400?

Just stick to 2.
If you want more sell yours and get 2 x 1Gb.
