1395815 2015-03-06 02:39:00 I downloaded one of these & installed it on swmbo's system.
I initially thought it was the Enterprise version but it shows as pro.

Question:
What's the go if she likes it.
Can we just buy a key from MS or do we have to get a full version & re-install.
Don't really need the pro, just the std version.

1395816 2015-03-06 03:03:00 You should be able to change the key and activate later.
Try the 2nd option on this page incisiveradar.com
Why they tell you the harder method first is anybodies guess.

1395818 2015-03-06 07:00:00 OEM windows 8 is $160 with a disc locally www.pp.co.nz $199 on MS site and not at all hard to find www.microsoftstore.com

That link of yours seems to good to be true to me, but up to you. First one you found? sounds unlikely in fact. I can't find that site any way except using your link.

1395819 2015-03-06 07:07:00 The link provided to the W8.1 Pro is USA. NOT NZ.

Dont know where you got the Pro from, MS always use enterprise editions as trials as it contains functions that STD, Pro dont have.

The Product Keys are hard coded / pre-pidded into the Image thats why you dont need to enter one during install, and can use it over and over again and to quote MS

Following the evaluation period, you will need to replace the operating system on your test computer and reinstall all your programs and data. It is not possible to upgrade the evaluation to a licensed working version of Windows 8.1 Enterprise. A clean installation is required.

The Command Prompt is WAY more powerful than a GUI activation :D

Did you know you can extend the 90 trial to maximum 270 days ;) using a command Prompt.( cant do that in the GUI)

Theres also another type of CMD in Windows that most people don't know about, its called Power Shell, and is actually a LOT more powerful than CMD - even the admin mode. Been using it a bit of late with Hyper-V :nerd:

1395821 2015-03-06 08:08:00 I was only searching for a product key, so I wouldn't have to re-install.
But may have to go that way yet.

"Dont know where you got the Pro from"

Downloaded it about 6 months ago thinking it was the enterprise one.
Was quite surprised when it wasn't.

1395822 2015-03-06 08:28:00 One way to see excatly what version it is.

Open a CMD in admin, type in slmgr /dli Press enter -- after a few seconds a window will open and tell you exactly what it is, to get even more info in the same CMD window, type in slmgr /dlv it will tell you how many days left and more info.

To extend the trial another 90 days, type in slmgr /rearm and the timer starts again after you reboot.

You MUST do it before the 90 days expires or it wont work, day 88-89 is a good time :) you can do it a total of 3 times.

Described with Pictures HERE (www.techfeb.com) :)

1395824 2015-03-06 09:27:00 You "may" have the preview version which is different to the official enterprise Trial. There was a pro Version but not Officially posted as a ISO, only as a upgrade option, but some sites have posted the upgrade as an ISO. ( which is also different to the final version)

The Official trial download site only has Enterprise. www.microsoft.com (www.microsoft.com)
